Our first day of vacation actually started out on Tuesday, March 4th with a rental car and a drive to Miami. About 45 minutes into the drive, we got a text saying our flight was delayed …. 10 hours now leaving the next morning. We pulled into a rest stop and I went to work. I sent a text to our transportation, called Holland America to make sure we could get on the ship that late in the evening and got a hotel room in Miami for the night. The Fairfield Inn doesn’t have a restaurant, so we were going to walk around the corner to the Marriott, but as we entered our room there was an ad for pizza delivery. Sold — eating pizza 45 minutes later. Up early and at the airport at 5:30am and at the Turkish Airlines lounge by 6:30am. We boarded our American Airlines non-stop flight for 9 hours from Miami to Buenos Aires. We had a private shuttle to the Holland America Oosterdam which was wonderful. Our driver spoke clear English and was full of so much information about Buenos Aires. The port immigration was open, but empty. Another couple and us were escorted through immigration & customs and put on a shuttle bus to the ship. That was the silver-lining to our delayed ordeal. I can’t even imagine the crowd earlier in the day in the stifling 98 degree heat. Some guests said it was pretty bad. So finally, by 8:30pm, we were on our ship the Oosterdam !!!! We went to our cabin 8086 and I got to surprise Patrick with a Signature Suite. I figured if we were going to be on here for 31 days, we deserved more space. Good night folks.
