Santiago, Chile
Santiago, Chile’s capital and largest city, sits in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. Santiago is the cultural, political and financial center of Chile and is home to the regional headquarters of many multinational corporations. The Chilean executive and judiciary are located in Santiago, but Congress meets mostly in nearby Valparaiso. Santiago is named after the biblical figure James son of Zebedee.
I can’t believe our good luck … we have the same cabin. No moving. No room key change. No need to disembark and re-embark.
We actually are in the port of San Antonio. It is about 1 1/2 hours to Santiago, each way. Original plans were to take one of the ship’s excursions but decided not to. We still will be in Chile tomorrow and have an excursion in La Serena. Also to just go into the city, you must take a shuttle bus to the terminal and repeat on the return trip. So we had a relaxed start and spent time watching the busy activity of the port from our favorite spot, the Crow’s Nest.
